Immunity

Immunity refers to our body's ability to defend itself against infectious agents such as bacteria, viruses, parasites and others. This defense mechanism is expressed through the immune response. Our body has two types of responses:

• The innate immune system, the first natural response against pathogens that is not specific to an infectious agent.
• The adaptive immune system : a later specific response to the agent

The immunity market is booming, with over 30% of consumers buying immunity supplements ((Euromonitor International Health Nutrition Survey, 2020). Indeed, during Covid-19 crisis, consumers wanted to prevent and reinforce their immune system : 65% of global consumers became aware of the importance of the immune system (Cabinet FMCG Gurus, 2022). Today, one out of four consumer still claim to take food supplements to boost their immune system. This has changed the market for the nutraceuticals and, more generally, for the health and nutrition markets. For example, the functional food market growing, particularly in the field of immunity, proof of the "foodification" of the nutraceutical market.
